The Story Behind the Artwork

Gathered in Air began with an exploration of movement—particularly the idea that flowers don't have to feel planted or contained within a composition.

I began echoing the shapes of petals in paint, allowing them to appear and dissolve across the surface. The dimensional fiber flowers became part of that same movement rather than simply sitting on top of the painting. They seem to be caught for a moment, literally gathered in air.

As you move around the artwork, the fiber changes its relationship to the painted petals and casts its own subtle shadows. What appears from one viewpoint shifts from another.

Gathered in Air captures that brief moment when movement seems suspended—held just long enough to notice before it continues on its way.
