The Story Behind the Artwork

At the Edge of Spring grew from a landscape-and-fiber-flower idea I've returned to for years and explored through several different media.

In this piece, the landscape is still waiting. Trees and painted flowers are only suggestions of what's beginning to emerge—the first indications that winter is giving way and something new is coming.

The dimensional fiber flowers carry that idea forward. They move beyond suggestion and physically emerge from the painted landscape, bringing color, joy, and a sense of hope into the foreground.

For me, At the Edge of Spring is about that particular moment when a season hasn't fully changed yet, but you can feel that it will. The first signs are enough.

The piece is presented in a mat that gives the dimensional flowers room to extend beyond the painted surface when framed, allowing them to remain an active part of the composition.
